Training for Doctors

The TrueNorth Health Center is recognized by the International Association of Hygienic Physicians (IAHP) as one of the few physician training facilities in the world for doctors of medicine, osteopathy, chiropractic and naturopathy desiring to gain experience and certification in fasting supervision.

TrueNorth welcomes applications from interested doctors with a MD, DO, DC, ND, PA, LAc, RN, or PhD degree to participate in a 1 month, on-site internship. We are also an elective 4 week rotation site for postgraduate medical residents.

Internships involve 4 to 52 weeks of residency at TrueNorth Health Education Center, and those meeting the required standards will be eligible for certification by the IAHP in fasting supervision. TrueNorth Health Center is recognized by most chiropractic colleges and naturopathic medical schools as an off-site training facility and students can obtain credit for internship or residency training.

Duties include:

  • Visiting water fasting patients twice daily, taking vitals, recording symptoms and working closely with staff and staff doctors
  • Evening and overnight on-call hours are required in addition to weekend work

Intern doctors are provided room and vegan board at the Center. No tobacco, alcohol, recreational drug, or coffee use is allowed at the Center. Interns participate in all aspects of the operation of the facility, including night coverage. We give priority to doctors with an interest in participating in clinical research.

A special emphasis is placed on the use of history, physical examination and non-invasive diagnostic tools, including blood and urine evaluations, EKG, etc. in evaluating fasting patients seen at the TrueNorth Health Center. No salary is provided and no fees are charged. Interns are provided 1 day and 1 night per week free of duties.

This is an intense, hands-on, learning experience for doctors serious about learning how to safely and effectively apply nutritional medicine, including fasting, in an integrative medical setting.

We are not able to accommodate the children or pets of interns at this time. Applicants should contact Dr. Amy Cahoy at:, or on: 707-586-5555, ext.1047.
